Happy Valentine's Day to the Singles / by Kelsey Morrison

As I write this letter to you, I know that this can be a tough time of year for you. You’ve always dreamed about finding that special person that would love you (and vice versa) no matter what. The only “problem” is that you haven’t met the right one yet. However, before you start worrying and wishing for reality to be different, let’s take a look at why you want love like that in your life.

First, you don’t want to be alone. None of us do, but sometimes God allows life to put you in, what seems like, periods of loneliness. He doesn’t do it to tease you or make you feel like you’re unloveable; only the enemy would cause you to think that way. God puts you through periods of loneliness to help you grow stronger by trusting in Him, along with getting to know the type of person you are. He wants to see you put Him first in your life, rather than putting “finding love” first.

Second, you want someone to love you for who you are, as well as treat you as the treasure that God created you to be. What we tend to know but always seem to leave tucked in the corner of our minds is that God has always loved us for who He created us to be. That’s why He died on the cross: to show us what true, indescribable love looks like. And He will send you the right person who will treat you with that same love, no matter what.

Lastly, you want someone to share the journey of life with. That’s why we date, to meet the right person and, eventually, marry one day. God made man and woman to share their lives together and grow together. The thing about growth is that every thing and everyone grow at different paces. You might feel like you’re ready for that next chapter, but the man or woman that God has for you may not be ready yet. God is still molding him or her into the person you need them to be, but especially who God wants them to be. Patience may not be fun (especially when you see others moving ahead of you), but you have to trust God that He will bring the person of your dreams into your life when He believes that you’re both ready. Don’t rush God and settle for the wrong one or you’ll miss out on someone so much better.

It’s hard to tell yourself that sometimes, but as you grow closer to God and trust in Him, the easier the wait will be. He will give you “that peace that surpasses all understanding.” God has your life, wants and desires in the palm of His hand. He sees your heart. He will honor your patience and heart according to His will as you grow in Him.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
